Guru Nanak, born in 15th-century Punjab, taught Ek Onkar — there is one God, formless and beyond all names, present equally in every being. This simple declaration cut through the caste and ritual divisions of his time.
Equality and Seva
Sikhism insists that all souls stand equal before God regardless of caste, gender, or class — lived out through seva (selfless service) and the langar, a free communal kitchen open to anyone who walks through the door.
Naam and the Guru Granth Sahib
Remembrance of the Name (Naam Japo), honest labor, and sharing with others form the practical heart of the path. The Guru Granth Sahib, the living scripture, gathers verses from Sikh Gurus and mystics of other traditions alike — an early acknowledgment that truth was not confined to one lineage.
